PG33 Transcript - One Man, One Vote
English 1: Two years ago, Barack Obama was only a blip on America's political radar. But, with a brilliant election campaign, loads of cash and a favourable political climate, the junior senator from Illinois has risen to power.
English 2: Exit polls show that Obama was elected president by gaining an extraordinary level of support among young people, African-Americans and new voters. Senator John McCain who also stood for election, gained ground with his lead among older voters and evangelicals.
English 3: The election results show that Obama gained the majority of the vote with 52.3%, compared with Mr McCain's 46.4%. Mr Obama's message of change was appealing when opinion polls showed that almost nine out of 10 Americans believed their country was "on the wrong track". The most important issue for voters was overwhelmingly the economy.
English 4: Amazing, and to think that it really wasn't that long ago that African-Americans didn't even have the right to vote. America has reinvented itself and proved once again that it really is "the land of opportunity". It will be exciting to see the course that Obama pursues and whether he can keep his election promises.
