Learn German podcast PG28 - Oktoberfest - Beer! Beer! Beer!
Germany is famous for the October Beer Festival more commonly known as the Oktoberfest. Germany's Oktoberfest is a sixteen-day festival held each year in Munich, Bavaria during late September (and running to early October). The Oktoberfest is an important part of Bavarian culture and is the world's largest fair, with some six million people attending every year. For the culture vultures out there, get ready for a marathon piss up of beer, beer and more beer! Let's get legless in our "lederhosen" and "dirndls" German style.

PG28 Transcript – Oktoberfest Germany (Beer! Beer! Beer!)
Lisa:
Oktoberfest gehen. Ich bin mal gespannt zu
sehen, wie viele Münchner dort sein werden.
Man sagt ja, dass es hauptsächlich Ausländer
sind, die extra zum Oktoberfest anreisen um
sich die Kante zu geben.
Tyler: I was at the Oktoberfest last year with a friend of mine from London and we were blown away by the magnitude of the event. And it’s true that we did get pretty wasted.
Tyler: I guess the one litre beers are at least half the reason why so many people get hammered so quickly. Many foreigners who aren’t used to drinking such large quantities of lager get particularly plastered. It’s also true that especially for us guys, it certainly feels good to be served beer by the litre by big bosomed ladies in tight Dirndls. It helps us overlook the hefty beer prices.
Tyler: Yeah, apparently last year 6,7 million litres of beer were consumed during the 16 day festival so it’s clear that many people are not just a little tipsy or merry but well tanked up. I know from experience that it’s really easy to get carried away in all the excitement. After drinking three Maß beers within a few hours last year, we were well sloshed. My buddy and I ended up losing each other and then I fumbled my mobile phone and dropped it directly into my fourth beer so we didn’t find each other again!
Tyler: True but I’d advise going on the rollercoaster and crazy rides early in the day or at least before you’re punch-drunk like I was. If you do need something to soak up the alcohol I can highly recommend the half portion of juicy, grilled chicken – a delicious Oktoberfest speciality and something of a lifesaver. Apparently more than half a million chicken are consumed during the festival alone!
Also hört wieder rein, bis dann!

Get Saucy This Halloween
I was really surprised to discover these great Oktoberfest dirndl packs selling at Amazon - and so cheap too. Apart from the raunchy dirndls I even noticed they have a pair of imitation Lederhosen in stock. And I thought Amazon was about books. Anyway, I figured for those of you couldn't make it to the Oktoberfest this year, perhaps these will make fun Halloween costumes! I'm especially keen on the pink and green number - I'll have to try and get Lisa into one of those :)
